Charlotte Dufour on nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems

Charlotte Dufour (FAO) presented the food system approach that places the promotion of healthy diets and nutrition at the heart of agriculture policies and programmes.

This requires improving indicators and creating measurement systems that give an accurate picture of how agriculture affects diets, and then use this information to explicitly incorporate nutrition into all aspects across the food system - from natural resource management to other elements like food safety, food processing, and proper food preparation and consumption, sanitation and education in households. To support agriculture’s contributions to nutritional outcomes, FAO is developing key recommendations and resources for how to improve nutrition through agriculture and food systems.
