In the lead up to the official launch of the UN’s The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report on 24 July in Brazil, on 15 July 2024 from 11:00 to 13:00 (EDT), FAO and its co-publishing partners will present key messages from the report during a Special Event focused on the SOFI 2024 theme, “Financing to End Hunger, Food Insecurity and Malnutrition in All its Forms.”
The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) is an annual flagship report jointly prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It monitors and analyses the world’s progress towards ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition. It also provides in-depth analysis on key challenges for achieving these goals in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The SOFI 2024 report examines current levels and gaps in financing to food security and nutrition. Current levels of finance development are insufficient, hindering progress towards UN Sustainable Development Goals 2.1 (ending hunger) and 2.2 (achieving food security). The report analyzes financing gaps and explores innovative solutions to achieve these goals. It will be used to complement and guide the discussions at the 2024 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).
