5 – 8 May 2025 | Washington D.C.
The World Bank Land Conference brings together over 1,000 participants from governments, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to showcase policy-relevant research, discuss technical issues and sector good practice, inform the dialogue of the World Bank, encourage cross-sector learning, and incubate investments in land initiatives.
The theme of the 2025 World Bank Land Conference isย "Securing Land Tenure and Access for Climate Action:ย Moving from Awareness to Action."
The theme builds on the 2024 theme, which focused on the connection between land and climate change, and takes the conversation to centre on action. The role of land is increasingly recognized in connection to other global development goals, including economic growth, poverty reduction, and climate change. The importance of securing tenure to achieve climate action has also been recognized in several major international climate-related initiatives, including the Glasgow Leadersโ Declaration on Forests and Land Use (2021) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, as well as in scaled-up financing to strengthen land administration and secure land rights to advance climate adaptation and mitigation, especially for Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
The conference will highlight effective strategies for securing land tenure and access and to scale up land sector initiatives, investments, and policy reforms in support of climate change mitigation and adaption.
Expressions of Interest to attend are open until 15 December 2024, and submission of proposals and research papers are open until 22 November 2024, via the Event Platform.
