Tackling Poverty and Inequalities through the Green Transition

The global green transition is a critical priority, but it risks overshadowing another urgent crisis: the deepening poverty and inequality in low and middle-income countries. This issue, escalating even before the COVID-19 pandemic, is central to the core missions of development cooperation agencies. Ending poverty and bridging inequality gaps are not only moral imperatives but also essential for achieving broader UN sustainable development goals. How can the climate agenda be leveraged to combat these longstanding challenges? Can a just transition serve as a catalyst for renewed development efforts? The OECD Development Co-operation Report 2024 offers policymakers concrete ways of delivering on their commitments, to reconcile these competing priorities, improve the lives of billions while fostering a greener, more equitable world.
